Rebekah K. O’Brien

Rebekah K. O’Brien is delighted to join Maestro Golan and the musicians of the York Symphony. After receiving a Masters in Orchestral Conducting and Music Theory from the Pennsylvania State University, where she studied with Maestro Gerardo Edelstein, she served as orchestra director of the Juniata College Orchestra. Under her baton, the orchestra brought music to the local community, performing in coffee shops, SCI-Smithfield, and on the campus
lawn. Taking the orchestra on their first international tour, Ms. O’Brien led performances in the mountains and cathedrals of Germany, France, and Switzerland.

Biography

Now, as orchestra director at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, she had the honor of hosting Maestro Leonard Slatkin and composer Dr. Cindy Mctee. Currently, Ms. O’Brien is pursuing her DMA in Orchestral Conducting at the Catholic University of America, where she studies with Maestro Simeone Tartaglione and Maestro Murry Sidlin. She has made appearances as a guest conductor and clinician in Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and California. To keep herself grounded, she can often be found under the hood of her car, learning from her sweetheart, Jeff, how to keep her 2003 Toyota Camry running (it has over 350,000 miles!). She lives in State College, PA, with her inspiring daughter, Genavieve.
